June 3-7th 2009 - SPORT MEDICINE IN PREPARATION FOR 2010

A Pre-Games Sport Medicine Conference

CASM is pleased and excited to announce its partnership with Tourism Vancouver, the International Ice Hockey Federation and the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games Committee (VANOC) in the hosting of the pre-Games Sport Medicine Conference, "Sport Medicine in Preparation for 2010" (see Preliminary Program).

A full series of activities are planned for the week of 1-7th June, culminating in a 3-day sport medicine scientific program, second-to-none, from June 3rd to 6th 2009.

PRE-CONFERENCE COURSES

CASM/FIMS Developmental Team Physician Course (Limited Registration)

This two-day team physician development course will provide the attendee with a comprehensive over-view of the essential skills for a team physician practising at the community, varsity or national level.

May 31st 2009 - June 2nd 2009 - CASM Course in Advanced Sport Medicine (Limited Registration)

This 'state of the art' two and a half day course will provide experienced sport medicine professionals with an intense and realistic learning course to sharpen the skills required in preparation for major Games with elite athletes. 

The course will be delivered in an interactive format that integrates the principles of adult education with updated teaching echnology and practical sessions where your skills and theory are challenged and refined.

The Key component have been identified as:

    • Acute Injuries
    • Travel Medicine and the Environment
    • Injury Prevention and Return to Play
    • Medical Legal Issues, Confidentiality and Ethics
    • Management at Venue
    • Special Populations
    • Athlete Monitoring
    • Sport Psychology/ Psychiatry
    • Anti-doping and Supplement Use

International Conference on Injury Prevention in Youth and Adolescents

This one day conference, hosted by CASM and the University of Calgary Sport Injury Prevention Research Group, will see a range of international keynote speakers present on a range of sport injury prevention topics in youth and adolescents.

CASM/CAEP MSK Roadshow

This one day workshop conjointly hosted by the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians and CASM will enable participants to acquire a practical evidence-based approach to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of MSK injuries in adults and children.
